Butte Cares is a community coalition. Its members are parents, teachers, police officers, business owners, religious leaders, health providers and other community members who are mobilizing at the local level to make their community safer, healthier and drug-free.
Butte Cares traces its history back to 1982 when, in response to an increasing problem of underage alcohol and drug use, a group of citizens attended Community Intervention workshops and brought their experience back to the Butte community. The group called itself “Citizens for Chemical Awareness (CCA) and soon became active in fundraising, conducting their own community workshops, sponsoring teen activities, and supporting other drug and alcohol abuse prevention program
In 1989 the name of the group became ‘Butte Cares’. The mission of community education and support of youth activities was strengthened as demonstrated by the role of advisor to the school district for its Drug Free Schools grant and conferences supporting and educating youth and adults.
